B.Ed and M.Ed admissions are on full flair in the holistic state of J&K.especially talking of The B.Ed admissions in the Center of Distance Education in the University of Kashmir.About 2000 students enter every session to add to the list of "Would Be" teachers of tomorrow.Youth are now pursuing B.ed and after B.Ed striving hard for M.Ed like anything because of the prevailing employment crisis but are hardly conscious of what they are supposed to study and train themselves of? talking of the significance of the course youth are very least concerned.the only motive of the majority of the selected ones is to pursue B.Ed for "B.Ediasation".
I too got selected way back in 2009 and joined the course by looting my parents by making them to pay more than a sum of 12000 as my course fee.For the first day, when i went to attend my contact classes,i got lost in the chaos and confusion in the whole system.About 1000 candidates gathered in front of the Department of Law for the contact programme and to get instructions, was looking more as if some Noam Chomsky himself was supposed to deliver a lecture on Kashmir Conflict or as if the late Sheikh Abdullaha had arrived from heaven to address a big rally posthumously.i saw the candidates selected, were happy but inside the classes were hardly interested in reading or learning and were just killing their time and to mark themselves present in the register. After few days we were provided the syllabi of the said course and it is comprised of four main core papers pertaining to principles, psychology, essentials of instructional technology and learning and development.Part B of the syllabi contains content-cum methodology papers consisting of language papers, social sciences, and other pure sciences.languages mentioned are English,Urdu,Hindi and Punjabi but Kashmiri is nowhere.if Punjabi is treated an essential language why Kashmiri is neglected. How can we say we are flourishing and preserving our culture when our language is neglect in every aspect and every where. As for as social sciences, sociology has been given no place whose teachings are so essential especially for a teacher because a teacher is a social engineer who moulds the future generation and changes the shape of things to come. How can he socialize a child when he is devoid of sociological studies.Part C . contains special courses like computer education, creativity and education, education technology, school management, special education, value education, population education, etc.but the fact is that hardly students opt such special course papers like school management, educational technology, creativity, etc and do not want to learn in true spirit and with vigor, but simply jumble around population education and guidance and counseling simply to finish the course as easily as possible.what was expected of a teacher or a would be teacher, was that he should learn about school management, administrative skills, children, effective teaching etc but as a social expert it is not the effective training to impart in us the qualities of a good teacher and train and equip us with modern educational technology but is merely a procedure and formality now.only few in-service teachers have got selected and majority of the students are post graduates who are least bothered to become good teachers but are simply adding a degree to their C.V's.and pursue it also because have lost hopes to get absorbed and know that Education is the last field they can enter in via B.ed.so as a social expert i deem that B.ed has been given a new dimension by the contemporary social, economical, educational and governmental conditions.it was a training for teachers to turn them to polished and effective teachers but now it is a certificate for the students, formality for the in-service ones,a source of hike in salary of the teachers and simply a faculty for the administrators but to children it hardly means anything as hardly such practices and teaching procedures are followed in classrooms.people now accumulate this degree so that they can sell themselves somewhere in the job market and keeping in view the present market orientation.the process of B.Ediasation will go on but we may not get the teachers it was supposed us to give.it is now lesser a degree and more a year of exploitation be it its fee structure, pattern, social pressures nourished by governmental faults, unemployment, new educational demands, new job orientations, etc.Under the shade of B.ed people are now only making themselves for the job selections, for at least to get some points for it so as to compete among lacs and thousands other unemployed ones.it is a sort of weak shield made against the sword of present job vacancies and job advertisements which are now always and routinely very few. This has defeated the actual goal of B.ed and has turned it to a hollow degree only and today it is B.Ed for B.Ediasation only. The anchoring question is do teachers really follow and practice their learning and training at school while teaching kids or does the system really enable them to do so?is there really a culture of teaching in accordance with the B.Ed teachings and training?or is it just an academic course,a source for universities to gain capital from unemployed youth?
